Are You A Cart Leaner?
Do you find yourself leaning on shopping carts or counters? Does standing cause pain in your low back? Is this pain worse with walking, especially going down stairs? Has pain or numbness begun to radiate into your rear-end or legs? Does sitting tend to help? If it sounds like I am describing you or someone you know, I have good news. There is hope!
Symptoms of pain and numbness that originates in the low back and may extend into the rear-end or legs can be caused by several conditions. If a person is over 50 and finds relief with sitting or leaning forward onto shopping carts or counters, the most likely cause is spinal stenosis. These symptoms are due to reduced space for nerves and blood vessels in the spinal canal. Bending forward increases the space in this area, temporarily reducing symptoms. Conversely, bending backwards reduces space, increasing symptoms.
If you or someone you know has symptoms like those described above, relief is waiting. Contact Dotson Physiotherapy to learn what you can do to own your health by decreasing pain and getting back to living life on your terms.
