Here’s to Silver Linings

If you’ve been following our blogs, you know Craft & Gather is one of my favorite local eateries. In fact, it was on their outdoor patio dining area where my wife and I decided on an appropriate budget with which to launch Dotson Physiotherapy. As winter approached the outdoor dining area was closed. And then, Washington State’s governor decided to shut down indoor dining in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. And with that, Craft & Gather’s main source of income, providing an amazing dining experience, stopped. I suspect it was this adversity served as the inspiration for their Crafted Winter Bourbon.

Knowing my appreciation for bourbon and desire to support Craft & Gather, my wife was kind enough to buy me a bottle of their Crafted Winter Bourbon - batch #7 to be precise. One of my favorite cocktails is the Old Fashioned. Batch #7, per my assessment, is an exceptional, winter rendition of this classic cocktail. As I sip on a glass and reflect on 2020, I cannot help but be thankful for this silver lining born from a year of adversity. Of course, Crafted Winter Bourbon isn’t the only silver lining to 2020.

Even before 2020 it was abundantly clear our healthcare system incentivized quantity over quality. Appointment times continued to grow shorter and patients spent more and more of their time with support staff instead of doctors. As a physical therapist contracted with insurance companies, my clinic made more money from two 40-minute appointments per week than one 90-minute session. And, while there are times when multiple sessions per week are ideal, more often the client’s increased time spent commuting and waiting in the lobby resulted in unanswered questions and beneficial interventions withheld due to a lack of time. And so, amidst the adversity of 2020 I decided to do something different.

Dotson Physiotherapy is not the solution to the current healthcare system - but it is a solution. At Dotson Physiotherapy we work for our patients - not their insurance company. We work with our clients to identify their desired goals within their health potential. With these goals in mind, we partner with our clients to develop and implement a focused plan for achieving their goals, adapting this plan as needed based on their life circumstances. In short, we take the time to educate and be educated, providing quality at the expense of quantity.
